We are delighted to announce that our Executive Director, Boniface Harrison, has been selected as part of the inaugural cohort for the Digital Democracy Fellowship 2024 under the ‘Vijana Tuchanuke’ (Youth Lets Wise Up) Project, facilitated by the Constitution and Reform Education Consortium (CRECO). This recognition is a testament to his strong dedication and passion for promoting effective democracy, fair governance, and positive social change.
In Kenya, youth have long been marginalized from significant governance processes and often become unwitting victims or agents of fake news. With misinformation and disinformation posing serious challenges to our society, it’s crucial to work towards informed and objective opinions about critical issues. To address these challenges, CRECO, in partnership with the Embassy of Finland Fund for Local Cooperation, is pioneering the Digital Democracy Fellowship. This initiative aims to foster engagement, education, and activism in digital democracy through a comprehensive digital democracy guide and sourcebook.
The fellowship will provide training, mentorship, and support for fellows to conduct community outreach programs, engaging both in-school and out-of-school youth on vital topics such as media literacy, digital security, and online civic engagement. The program also facilitates collaboration between college students, journalists, content creators, and activists on issues such as data privacy, fact-checking, and debunking fake news.
We applaud CRECO and all stakeholders for their commitment to this transformative program. MuemAction Post will support this initiative by amplifying the achievements of the fellowship and highlighting the contributions of our Executive Director. Follow us on social media for updates, and join us in wishing the fellowship participants continued success!
