Unlocking Africa\’s Potential: Visa-Free Travel as a Catalyst for the Africa Agenda 2063

An integrated Africa is a cornerstone of the Africa Agenda 2063, and the recent strides by Kenya and Rwanda hinting at declaring their countries visa-free for African nationals are commendable steps towards realizing this visionary blueprint and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCTA). Historically, only Seychelles, The Gambia, and Benin were visa-free in Africa.

Visa restrictions among African countries pose significant economic and social challenges. Economically, they hinder trade, investment, and economic growth by limiting the movement of goods, services, and human capital. These restrictions also stifle tourism and cross-border business opportunities. Socially, they hinder cultural exchange, and create barriers to education and healthcare access.

We call upon all African heads of states to swiftly consider visa-free policies to foster continental unity and shared prosperity. Let\’s continue working together to remove barriers and build an integrated Africa that thrives economically and socially, as envisioned in the Africa Agenda 2063.
